The Mental Game

I’ve written before about my head lagging behind my body. The mind is not to be underestimated. It has more to do with this health and fitness thing that you think until you’re in the trenches. Whelp, three years in the trenches and I’m being reminded again and again. In the last few months, I’m noticing quite often that it’s only my mind that likes junk food, only my mind that gives up the run halfway through and walks the rest of the way home. A few weeks ago, I was running a route that I know is 5.5 miles. About 2 miles from home, I thought ‘eh I’m done with this, I’ll just walk the rest of the way home’. Baltimore 10 Miler

This weekend, I did the Baltimore 10 Miler, and it was ‘Triple H – hot, humid, hills’. The race starts and ends at Druid Hill Park in north Baltimore. I requested race day packet pick up, which I was granted. Packet pick up happens throughout the week prior to the race at Dicks Sporting Goods in the Baltimore area, which is really inconvenient to do on a weekday after work for me. My alarm went off at 3am and I was ready and out the door by 4am. Goal Update: May 2016

Check out my original goal post here. -Run at least one race every month: Done! I did the ‘Nut Job Challenge’ at the Frederick Running Festival. Saturday evening was the twilight 5k, where I had an exciting PR and Sunday morning was the half marathon where I had my second fastest half marathon. -Save money, pay off debts, own less: I sold an upholstered chair I had sitting around which got it out of my way and gave me a few bucks. I also stayed on track with being critical of what I acquire.
